Mosquito Season Guide

Know when mosquitoes are most active in your region – and how to prepare with Bug Vortex.

Overview

Mosquitoes thrive in warm, humid conditions — but activity levels vary by region, climate, and season. Whether you’re in North America, Australia, or the UK, this guide helps you time your trap setup for maximum effectiveness.

🇺🇸 United States

General Pattern:

  • Warm southern states (e.g., FL, TX, LA) see activity starting as early as February, peaking from April to October.
  • Northern states begin later — usually May to September.

Peak Season by Region:

  • South: March – October
  • Midwest: April – September
  • Northeast: May – September
  • West: May – August

Tip: Begin using your trap 2–4 weeks before peak season.

🇨🇦 Canada

General Pattern:

  • Shorter season due to cooler climate.
  • Mosquitoes emerge around late May to early June and remain active through August.
  • Areas near wetlands and lakes (especially Manitoba and Ontario) see intense bursts.

Peak Months:

  • June – August (Nationwide)
  • May – September (Southern regions)

Tip: Set traps just after snowmelt in late spring — early June for most areas.

🇦🇺 Australia

General Pattern:

  • Activity depends heavily on region.
  • Northern Australia (e.g., Darwin) has mosquitoes year-round due to the tropical climate.
  • Southern states see spikes in the summer and autumn months.

Peak Months by Region:

  • Northern Australia: Year-round, peak in wet season (Nov–April)
  • Southern Australia: December – April

Tip: Start traps just before the wet season or after heavy rainfall.

🇬🇧 United Kingdom

General Pattern:

  • Mild, damp summers make a suitable breeding ground.
  • Mosquitoes are generally active from late May to September.

Peak Season:

  • June – August
  • Higher risk near marshes, ponds, and gardens with stagnant water.

Tip: Clear out standing water early and begin trap usage by mid-May.

Mosquito Activity by Season (Global Overview)

Why Early Setup Matters

Mosquitoes lay eggs in standing water and multiply fast. By deploying Bug Vortex traps before peak season, you catch them early and disrupt breeding cycles — leading to fewer bites later.

Best Practices for Trap Placement

  • Place in shady, humid areas, away from strong wind or direct sun.
  • Keep it at ground level for best performance.
  • Avoid placing near competing light sources (if using UV-powered traps).
  • Clean or check traps weekly during high season.
